Omega-3 and CLA

Omega-3 is an essential fatty acid classed with the polyunsaturated fats. The human body cannot synthesize this substance and as such it must be ingested.

This substance has been found to reduce the risk of coronary heart disease, help with circulatory problems such as varicose veins and reduce blood pressure. It also helps reduce triglycerides and therefore reduces the risk of primary and secondary heart attacks. Some benefits have also been reported regarding rheumatoid arthritis and cardiac arrhythmias.

Several studies report possible anti-cancer effects of Omega-3 fatty acids (particularly breast, colon and prostate cancer). No clear conclusion can be drawn at this time, however.

Other possible benefits include help with depression and other mood disorders.

Omega-6 is a closely related fatty acid that is commonly present with Omega-3. While increased amounts of Omega-3 fats have proven to be beneficial the inverse is true of the Omega-6 fats. The best way to judge whether the Omega content of a product is helpful or hurtful is to look at the ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3 fats.

This ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3 is paramount. For instance, it has been estimated that our modern Western diet averages between 10:1 to 30:1 (Omega 6 : Omega 3). Commodity beef typically has an Omega ratio of 20:1 to 30:1. Healthy ratios range from 1:1 to 1:4. It is no coincidence that mans natural ancestral diet is estimated to have been about 2:1 to 10:1 and this ratio range is the range that modern science has associated with robust healthfulness. Our grass-finished buffalo meat is about 1.5 : 1! Click here to see the actual lab reports done on our very own meat.

CLA or Conjugated Linoleic Acid is a substance that has been attributed with various antioxidant and anti-tumor properties. Studies on CLA in humans show a tendency for reduced body fat, particularly abdominal fat, changes in serum total lipids and decreased whole body glucose uptake.

Once again, this beneficial substance can be best found in our grass-finished buffalo meat.

Remember in the ‘80’s when the latest data suggested that diets high in meat were bad for our hearts? The big and most curious anomaly was the seemingly healthy hearts of lots of human cultures throughout the world that ate lots of red meat. Well, the Omega fat ratio and CLA are the answers to that riddle. Meats from wild animals raised on grass based diets have the proper balance of fatty acids. That is exactly what we have for you!
